Spielberg’s E.T. Solid Resin Prototype

Not exactly a model, but a fine resin E.T. figure.

This is a one-of-a-kind resin prototype casting of the infamous Extraterrestrial, sculpted and cast by Joe Laudati in 1998. Commissioned and approved by Universal, Laudati’s sculpt was soon produced in PVC vinyl and attached to flashlight-like wands to be sold at the Studio’s gift shops.

Slickly cast as one piece of solid off-white resin, the E.T. prototype stands 5” tall x 2 ¾” wide x 2 ½” deep, including the slight circular ‘fit ring’ at the base (which would later be tooled into the final vinyl figure for attachment).

This rare E.T. resin prototype was purchased directly from Joe Laudati in 2000, and has been preserved since then in a glass display case, so he’s in perfect condition.
